As Christmas Day approaches, we’ve been looking back at our favourite adverts from the big beasts of the business world.
Some are fun, some are sentimental and some are, well about carrots going lap dancing.
Wait a minute, I almost forgot, speaking of business, it’s always a good time to remember the Muppets Christmas Carol is the best Christmas movie, I will not be taking questions or comments on this matter.

Sam’s Top 10
Honourable Mention – Love Manx
It promotes local business, tells a good story and its satire of modern shopping habits shines through brilliantly.
10 – John Lewis
I just did not vibe with this advert at all, a disappointment from the one time banker’s guarantee of Christmas adverts
9 – Asda
The Grinch is everywhere this year, from PJs to duvet sets and wrapping paper to cookie cutters, but his appearance in the Asda adverts was a decent surprise, albeit not a great ad.
8 – Sainsbury’s
BFG, very wholesome, lands its punch and taps into emotion, a good showing .
7 – Save the Children
The red trucks are ramping up, holidays are coming, but they’re not. I thought this was really clever and imaginative, made its point without hammering it and just quietly very good.
6 – Barbour
Not a brand I have any affinity for, but it’s always great to see Wallace and Gromit, who do a lot of the heavy lifting to get this so high.
5 – M&S
Dawn French, national treasure, a Christmas traffic jam and let’s face it, who doesn’t love M&S picky bits at Christmas.
4 – Morrisons
We love backing local produce and Morrisons show the story of how their Christmas treats are made, from farmers to fishermen, the story comes together with a cheerful delivery driver.
3 – Tesco
Perfectly capturing the stupid arguments and forgotten things which pop up over Christmas, Tesco landed it. Tell me your siblings haven’t ever argued over who is the favourite…
2- Aldi
A bit of a cheat here, with everyone’s favourite carrot, Kevin, due to get hitched, this plays out over several 60 second clips. However, it is the events of Kevin’s stag do that shine the most. From Love Actually to Borat, the number of cultural references are amazing, but it is the line about going to ‘Lapland, for the dancing’ that steals the show.
1- Waitrose
Joe Wilkinson, Keira Knightley, enough said. It is just brilliant and for me, wins the Christmas crown.
