Bushy’s Brewery is appealing for personal memories and photographs of its pubs, ales and events for a book celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2025.
Bushy’s began in November 1985, when founder Martin Brunnschweiler brewed the first Bushy’s Ale in the cellar below what would become Bushy’s Brew Pub, on Victoria Street, Douglas, opposite the Bottleneck car park.
The book will cover all the major landmarks in the Bushy’s story, including the acquisition of the Rovers Return, the brewery moving to Santon in 1990, the start of the TT tent in the Bottleneck Car Park, purchase of The Bay Hotel in Port Erin, and the start of the TT Village in the Villa Marina gardens in 2018.
Memories
“Most people in the Isle of Man, and many visitors to the Island, will have memories related to Bushy’s over the years,’ explained Martin. “That might be the gigs in the big room at the original Bushy’s bar, nights in the Rovers Return, or at our TT venues, first at the Bottleneck and now at the Villa Marina.
“We would love to hear from anyone who has a story to tell, perhaps funny, perhaps sad – it might be of a particular night, a person they met, or more general recollections. We would also welcome any photos related to those memories, or just general pictures that you might have.
“The Bushy’s story will continue into its fifth decade when the brewery moves to a new home in Castletown in 2025. We want the book to be a celebration of the Bushy’s name and everyone who has been involved along the way, including the staff, the punters, and the musicians who have played at our venues.”
