A team from Island Tree and Landscaping Services has been working hard over the past three weeks at Government House.
Government House sits in approximately 12 hectares of land which, in addition to the formal gardens, comprises mature woodlands and shrubberies.
The trees at Government House are numbered, recorded and carefully monitored by the DoI, with around 170 trees scrutinised for Height, Life Stage and Life Expectancy.
Following a recent tree survey, work has been taking place on the Government House Estate to attend to those trees that need attention.
Trees at Gov House
This was a big undertaking that has involved tree surgery and felling, where appropriate, in response to diseases such as ash dieback, honey fungus and Dutch elm disease.
This will be followed by a programme of replanting several of the trees on the estate.
The main species of tree at Government House are Sycamore, Ash and Beech.
In addition to these main species, other trees include Lime, Cherry, Horse Chestnut, Red Horse Chestnut, Scots Pine, Fir, Birch, Apple and a New Zealand Yew.
