Tynwald has backed Dr Alex Allinson’s amendments to the Assisted Dying Bill, which he hopes will allow the UK government to back royal assent.
The bill returned to Tynwald after the UK refused to approve royal assent due to key protections it said must be written into primary legislation rather than secondary codes of practice .
The amendments introduce new clauses requiring medical professionals to have “primary regard” to safeguarding vulnerable adults from coercion or undue influence.
In the Keys, the vote was passed 16-6, with only the Bishop opposing in LegCo.
