UK company chosen over local for Douglas firework display

A local firework display company, Galaxy Fireworks, has been turned down by Douglas City Council for the City’s firework display tender.

The City Council has again awarded a UK company the tender over a local business.

Galaxy Fireworks says that it has now tried six times over 18 years to obtain the tender for Douglas`s bonfire night firework display.

The business says it has ‘tried every angle possible with our tenders and have now run out of ideas.’

It says it will now concentrate on its current shows and clients on the island, and make further movements to the UK.

Galaxy Fireworks is currently the business behind the fantastic fireworks at Peel, Ramsey, and Laxey.

Douglas City Council says that it followed its usual process for quotations and that six companies were approached and three quotations were received by the closing date.

The UK-based company, Star Fireworks, which has been awarded the contract, was determined to be the ‘best value for money for the ratepayer’ by the Council.

According to the Council, the off-island firm that has run the display for the Council in other years also employs a Douglas resident.

The Council says Star Fireworks uses local companies when on island and for the delivery of the display here.
