An electrician who headbutted a man after being insulted on a night out has been fined £600 by magistrates.
Kegen Stevenson, from Manchester, pleaded guilty to one charge of disorderly conduct on licensed premises.
The court heard that Stevenson had been in Jaks at 1:15am on July 10 when he became involved in an altercation with another customer.
Prosecutors said Stevenson headbutted the man and was arrested by officers while walking along the promenade after his description match the one given by security staff.
Advocate James Peterson told magistrates that Stevenson, who is on the island working for Tesco, had been talking to the other man while drinking, but the conversation turned sour when it turned to football.
He said Stevenson was called a “liar” by the other person when he said he played for a junior team before headbutting him after the other man called him a “spastic” due to his stammer.
The only caused appeared to be a bloody nose and Mr Peterson said his client wished to apologise, describing the incident as a “very unfortunate one-off”.
Magistrates fined Stevenson £600 plus £125 costs, with £300 paid forthwith, with the rest to be paid at the offered rate of £100 a week.
The chairwoman told him that it was “really not a nice thing for someone to have said to you”, but added that they would not tolerate that behaviour, “not on this island”.
