Warning issued over counterfeit bank notes

Police have issued a warning of the possibility of counterfeit currency being used at present.

Investigating officers said the fake bank notes have the serial number BB87 508178.

Residents and visitors are being asked to check all cash and if unsure take it into a bank who can assist.

A force spokesperson said: “Please be aware that it is a criminal offence to possess and/or use counterfeit currency where those found guilty of such can receive quite a hefty sentence.”
