The DoI has had to extend a consultation into how the island manages its waste after it failed to meet the government’s guidelines.
Minister Tim Crookall was asked about the short constellation period, initially only four week, by Jason Poorhouse.
Mr Crookall said that “that due to an oversight, the initial consultation period was not in line with section 2 of the Isle of Man Government Consultation Principles”.
He added that as a result the consultation has been extended up to nine weeks and will now run until October 21.
Mr Moorhouse also asked about how local authorities had been engaged with over the plans, which include a centralised waste system run by central government rather than commissioners.
Mr Crookall said: “The local authorities have been informed of this extension and it is hoped that they will be able to engage with the consultants on the principles during this extended period.”
As least one local authority has said the service will be worse if run by central government, while there has been some disquiet over when authorities found out about the proposed changes.
