Watson to Lead Douglas Council

Devon Watson has been elected as Leader of Douglas Council.

Mr Watson, who represents the Douglas East constituency, will head up the local authority for the next two years.

The Chairs and make-up of various Council committees for the 2025-2027 municipal term were also chosen at a special meeting of the local authority this afternoon.

Peter Washington will serve as Chair of the Housing and Property Committee, Natalie Byron-Teare was elected as Chair of the Regeneration and Community Committee and the Green Party’s Falk Horning remains at the helm of the Environmental Services Committee.

Mr Horning will also Chair the Pensions Committee and Janet Thommeny is the Chair of the local authority’s Standards Committee.

Committee

The committees elected were:

Executive Committee: Devon Watson (Chair), Peter Washington, Natalie Byron-Teare, Falk Horning and Fenella Logan.

Housing and Property Committee: Peter Washington (Chair), David Cretney, Karel Ver Elst, and Janet Thommeny.

Regeneration and Community Committee: Natalie Byron-Teare (Chair), David Cretney, Susan Kewin and Mark Wheeler.

Environmental Services Committee: Falk Horning (Chair), Janet Thommeny, David Cretney and Mark Wheeler.

The Worshipful the Mayor (ex officio) is a member of all the above.

Pensions Committee: Falk Horning (Chair), Karel Ver Elst, Janet Thommeny, Natalie Byron-Teare and Alexa Christian (Independent Member).

Standards Committee: Janet Thommeny (Chair).

All roles have been elected for the next municipal term which runs until April 30, 2027.
