Manx Utilities’ proposed onshore windfarm will require Tynwald approval for a capital bid.
Treasury Minister Dr Alex Allinson confirmed during questions about the Major Projects Board’s oversight of high-value projects.
Responding to Chris Thomas MHK, Dr Allinson revealed the board had advised the Treasury and Council of Ministers on the scheme. “The board has considered and discussed projects, including the onshore wind project,” he said.
Tanya August-Phillips MLC pressed for transparency, questioning public support for prioritised projects like the windfarm.
Dr Allinson stressed the board’s role in early risk identification, particularly for complex builds. “This is to give extra oversight and support,” he said.
However, Tim Glover MHK sought clarity on scrutiny for the windfarm.
Dr Allinson confirmed: “The full funding for the onshore wind project from Manx Utilities, I understand, would be subject to a full capital bid in terms of coming forward to Tynwald for agreement, yes.”
