Police have confirmed that a woman reported her arm being grabbed by occupants of a car that mounted the pavement near her.
The Constabulary has moved to clarify the circumstances of an incident referenced in a social media post currently circulating online.
DCI Berry, the force’s head of public protection, said the Constabulary is aware of the post and recognises it may have caused concern within the community. While the force does not usually comment on individual incidents, it said it wished to prevent the spread of misinformation.
Police confirmed that a report was received on May 12 2026. A woman reported that she had been approached by the occupants of a vehicle that briefly mounted the pavement near her.
The individuals spoke to her from inside the vehicle and grabbed her arm. No one exited the vehicle, and she was able to leave the area.
She told officers the unwanted interaction made her feel uncomfortable and upset.
Officers attended and carried out all appropriate investigative actions, including engagement with the complainant. Police say an investigation began immediately and has been managed in line with the complainant’s wishes while ensuring public safety.
The Constabulary added that there have been no further reports of a similar nature since the incident. It said it treats all such matters seriously and will continue to assess any information received.
