Some residents with valid immigration permissions have experienced difficulties when travelling via the UK.
Responding to questions in the House of Keys, Treasury Minister Chris Thomas said he was aware of the issue.
He added that he was “personally aware, very aware, of two residents, including indefinite leave to remain, who have reported to the immigration service that they have experienced difficulties when travelling back to the island via the United Kingdom. I believe there are a handful more too”.
The minister explained the issues have occurred “where airline systems have been unable to confirm an individual’s status electronically, even though the traveller held valid physical Isle of Man immigration documentation”.
He assured members the immigration service is “responding quickly and constructively” and is “continuing to work closely with the UK Home Office, alongside Jersey and Guernsey on the introduction of digital e-visas”.
