£2.5m Needed for Patient Transfers

The DHSC has asked Treasury for £2.5m to cover the forecast additional cost of the non-urgent patient air transfer service.

The funding bid was revealed by the Health Minister Claire Christian, in a written answer to Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper.

In her latest answer, Ms Christian said: “At the time of writing, the outcome of this request is awaited, although such is expected imminently.”

Earlier in the year, she said the funding need arose from a “recent competitive tender process, as highlighted in the Manx Care Operating Plan 2025”.

Recurring

The additional funding has been sought as a one-off for the 2025-26 financial year.

Ms Christian added: “The recurring cost of the patient transfer service will be addressed either as part of future budget cycles or may yet be mitigated through any longer-term approach to securing strategic air connectivity more broadly.”

She added that discussions are ongoing, “with clarity expected before the end of 2025″.
