Manx National Heritage has issued a plea for visitors to protect historic landscapes after recent incidents involving fires at protected sites.
The remains of a campfire were discovered at Close ny Chollagh, a protected ancient monument near Poyllvaaish on Scarlett.
This follows a fire on Meayll Hill above Cregneash and the use of a disposable barbecue at Cronk ny Merriu fort in Santon.
A spokesperson said: “We know how much people love spending time in these beautiful, historic landscapes and we want everyone to enjoy them safely.
“But it’s important to remember that lighting fires or barbecues on our lands isn’t just against our bye-laws, it’s dangerous.”
They added: “Even a small campfire or disposable barbecue can damage fragile wildlife habitats, destroy irreplaceable archaeological remains, and spread out of control.”
“Historic places and landscapes in our care are protected for everyone. By taking care and avoiding fire, you’re helping us safeguard our cultural and natural treasures for future generations.”
