Officers from the Roads Policing Unit have expressed disappointment after more than half the vehicles stopped at a roadside checkpoint in Ballasalla were found to be defective.
The operation, part of the ongoing ‘Operation Uplift’, was conducted with partners from the Vehicle Testing Centre.
A total of 47 vehicles were stopped and examined. Of those, 25 were found to have defects.
Vehicle Defect Rectification Notices were issued for issues including faulty lights, worn tyres, empty washer fluid reservoirs, and cracked mirrors. The drivers of four vehicles received points and fines for more serious tyre offences.
A police spokesperson said, “It’s disappointing that more than half of the vehicles stopped this evening had a defect; please carry out your checks and make sure you and your vehicle are fit for the road!”
