What is Going on With Assisted Dying Bill?

When the Keys sit tomorrow, MHKs ask for an update on the Assisted Dying Bill.

Dr Alex Allinson’s private members bill was passed by MHKs and sent off to the Lord Chancellor, David Lammy, for a recommendation.

However, despite Dr Allinson telling ITV Grenada that he has worked with the AG’s Chambers to iron out issues, all appears to have gone quiet on the Westminster front.

In Keys tomorrow, both Tim Glover and Julie Edge have questions tabled for the Chief Minister about what questions the Ministry of Justice has asked about the Assisted Dying Bill 2023 and what responses have been given.

If the bill, passed by Tynwald members, does receive royal approval it could make the island the first part of the British Isles to introduce the change.

However, if it is blocked, it would bring the constitutional relationship between Tynwald and Westminster into real question for the first time in some years.
