Members of the Manx National Farmers’ Union enjoyed a hands on farm‑to‑fork experience last week as Ballakelly Farm hosted the latest MNFU branch meeting.
Al and Rachel Teare from Ballakelly opened their gates to give members an inside look at the realities of modern farming, beginning with an on farm tour before delivering a live butchery demonstration.
The pair spoke candidly about the challenges facing today’s farmers and how they are adapting and developing their business for the future.
The evening concluded with a locally sourced supper provided by North Harvest, featuring pulled pork baps and spicy chips prepared by a top class chef, a highlight that organisers said showcased the quality of Manx produce at its best.
The MNFU said events like this underline the skill, care and collaboration behind local food production, as well as the strength of the island’s farming community.
The Union extended its thanks to the Teare family of Ballakelly Farm, and to Sam Morrey and Dee Prophet of North Harvest, for their generosity and hospitality.
