‘A tremendous privilege’

The President of Tynwald, Laurence Skelly OBE MLC, invited His Majesty The King into Tynwald, where he received a Loyal Address before delivering a response

His Majesty The King’s visit to the Isle of Man brought together key moments across Tynwald, Douglas and Port Soderick.

The King, visiting in his capacity as Lord of Mann, began with a special sitting of Tynwald before meeting the public in Douglas.

He then joined the Lieutenant Governor, Sir John Lorimer, for a series of engagements showcasing Manx culture, heritage and community organisations, including the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway and a visit to Heroes on the Water in Port Soderick.

Sir John Lorimer said: “It was a tremendous privilege to welcome His Majesty The King to the Isle of Man as Lord of Mann.

“The visit provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase so much of what makes the island special – the ancient parliamentary traditions, rich culture and heritage, our vibrant communities and the remarkable work undertaken by individuals, charities and organisations across the Island.

“Wherever he travelled, His Majesty received an exceptionally warm and enthusiastic Manx welcome. I know that many people very much valued the opportunity to see His Majesty The King, Lord of Mann, and to be part of such a significant occasion in the Island’s history.”
