With the nights creeping in, my coming out of retirement and the inability of wearing a cap without it taking a transatlantic flight, I’m officially mourning summer.
If this weeks drenching wasn’t bad enough – if you don’t know what I’m on about you clearly weren’t caught in Wednesday’s monsoon – this weekend looks no better.
We may get a brief rest from the torrential downpours today with some sunny intervals, but we will still have the dodge the occasional scattered shower.
Your baseball cap may be safe later on in the day as the fresh to strong southwest winds ease.
Serious Summer Mourning
Tomorrow however is a case of serious summer mourning.
It’ll be dry at first, but rain soon developing, this turning persistent and heavy (7-20mm forecast) with strong winds, the rain then clearing to showers later in day.
If the rain wasn’t bad enough, the wind will sure as hell seal the deal that winter is just around the corner.
The wind will start off with a South 10-15, soon backing and increasing SE 20-25, 25-30 gusts 40 in places.
Veering SW later in day, then increasing generally West or SW 25-30 gusts 40 overnight, 35-40 gusts 50 in places.
Strong winds developing, gale force later (risk of travel disruption later).
Windy Outlook
It’ll still be a windy day on Monday (September 15), however there is good news as it’ll be sunny with clear intervals.
Of course there will be the occasional shower, some of which will be heavy.
Wind will be a Westerly 25-30 gusts 40, 35-40 gusts 50 in places, decreasing West or NW 20-25 later in day, 25-30 gusts 40 in places.
The Met Office warns there is another risk of travel disruption at first.
A slight nicer day on Tuesday (September 16), as it’s forecast to be dry with sunny spells and easing winds, then rain later in night.
Wind will be a Westerly or NW 20-25, 25-30 gusts 40 in places, steadily decreasing West or SW 10-15 during day, 15-20 in places, then backing South or SE overnight.
