An MHK has questioned Manx National Heritage’s pricing amid discussion on social media about the cost of entry.
During TT, criticism was made that it costs £15.50 for an adult to visit the Great Laxey Wheel.
Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston confirmed that MNH reviews admission prices annually, comparing them to similar attractions locally and off-island.
“All pricing decisions are made as part of the annual budgetary process and require approval from the trustees of Manx National Heritage,” he said.
Limit
The current policy offers free entry for children, a practice “not commonly found elsewhere,” with prices published online and on-site at the start of each calendar year.
Julie Edge MHK pressed for clarity on the age limit for free child entry and requested circulation of the policy. “I want to make sure that the policy does replicate throughout all of the facilities,” she said.
Referencing the £15.50 charge during TT, Ms Edge asked: “Has it reduced entry onto our amazing cultural facilities?”.
Minister Johnston agreed to seek the information from trustees.
Rob Callister highlighted the annual pass as a cost-effective option as Mr Johnston acknowledged this but noted that pricing decisions ultimately rest with the trustees, who must balance operational and maintenance costs.
