Staff from Standard Bank have taken part in a clean up of Peel that also saw them learn about pollution and the bank’s environmental efforts.
The bankers worked with charity Beach Buddies and Judith Alkema, an environmental science researcher.
Dasa Moore from Standard Bank said: “We targeted beaches, hills, and urban areas within Peel for our cleanup activity. A big shoutout to the volunteers and Standard Bank for providing us the opportunity to contribute environmentally.
“It was a rewarding experience that filled us with pride!”
Tall ship
Judith Alkema, who arrived on the tall-ship ‘Thalassa’, who was accompanied by trainees from Ireland, the Netherlands, Estonia, and France.
Dasa added that the team “collaborated with us to understand more about plastic pollution and Standard Bank’s environmental efforts”.
She said: “I am happy to report that the collective effort resulted in gathering a truck’s worth of trash, including ropes, shattered glass, cans, paper cups, plastics, and larger debris concealed beneath vegetation, sand and rocky nooks.
“Beach Buddies’ Bill Dale, along with members of the public, acknowledged our dedicated efforts and commended Standard Bank for allotting work hours for such a significant cause.”
