Ben-my-Chree is well on her way to the west coast of Scotland where she will undergo berthing trials ahead of a potential lease to CalMac.
The Scottish ferry operator is having issues with its own fleet and plans to run the Ben on the Troon to Aaran route.
Under the Sea Services Agreement the Steam Packet must ensure that a back-up vessel, currently the Ben, is available for use during the TT, MGP and Christmas period.
However, the company is allowed other lease her providing the ship can be returned to the island within 96 hours.
The Steam Packet has said the trials come before a “possible charter for 30-40 days”.
She is due to arrive in Troon around 9am this morning.
