Manx BirdLife is set to grow its education programme after receiving a £4,900 grant from the Manx Lottery Trust.
The funding will support outdoor learning initiatives, enabling schools and community groups to participate in species monitoring and conservation at the Point of Ayre National Reserve and other locations.
During the 2022-23 academic year, over 1,000 children took part in Manx BirdLife activities, rising to nearly 2,500 in 2023-24.
With the Point of Ayre reserve now open, the charity aims to foster deeper connections between young people and nature.
The grant will fund equipment such as moth traps, bat detectors, butterfly nets, and action cameras, available for free loan to schools and groups.

This funding will allow us to provide young people and community groups with the equipment they need to engage directly with the natural world, develop a deeper understanding of the species around us, and become active participants in conservation efforts.”

The Manx Lottery Trust’s Community Awards Programme funds projects with lasting benefits for Isle of Man communities.
Applications are open to charities, schools, and groups focused on environmental, educational, or well-being initiatives.
