The island could face blizzards and snow drifts across the hills this weekend, the Met Office has said.
Ronaldsway’s five day forecast points towards snow hitting the island as temperatures fall.
While warning of drifts on higher ground for Saturday into Sunday, it says “most of the towns and populated areas will escape, with the snow level likely to be a few hundred feet”.
There is also the possible risk of disruption to power cables with the Met Office saying that “ice accretion on power lines possible”.
Saturday – Risk of icy patches to start, then ice/ snow later. Significant accumulations of snow beginning on high ground later, with severe drifting. Snow level still a little uncertain, but rain/ sleet is most probable on low ground. Strong winds later.
Sunday – Spells of rain, sleet and snow, heavy at times then dying out late in the day/ overnight. The strong winds will give blizzards and severe drifting on the hills, deep drifts forming in places. However, most of the towns and populated areas will escape, with the snow level likely to be a few hundred feet.
