Blue Light Hub Back on The Cards

Plans for a shared emergency services facility have taken a small step forward, with £145,000 allocated from the Project Development Fund to develop proposals for a “Blue Light Hub.”

The funding will enable the Department of Home Affairs to complete design and feasibility work for a facility that could co-locate emergency services under one roof.

According to the budget document, the scheme is listed among Project Development Fund approvals with “Blue Light Hub” receiving the £145,000 allocation.

The concept of a shared emergency services hub has been discussed for several years as a way to improve collaboration between police, fire, and ambulance services while potentially delivering operational efficiencies.

However, the long rumoured location of Victoria Road would appear to not provide the same accessibility as, for example, the current Fire Station on Peel Road.

The Blue Light Hub proposal is one of several DHA projects in development, alongside prison expansion plans at £200,000, a prison heating solution at £40,000, and Eastcliffe at £50,000.
