Buddies Partner up for Mental Health Week

Beach Buddies is teaming up with the government to host a series of community clean-up events during Mental Health Awareness Week.

Mental Health Awareness Week runs throughout this week.

The initiative aligns with this year’s theme, “community,” encouraging public participation—especially from those who have never joined a clean-up before. Events will take place in towns, villages, parks, glens, and beaches.

There is no cost to take part, and people of all ages can join for any duration. Equipment is provided, and safety briefings will be given.

Kate Bergquist, Health Improvement Officer for the Public Health Directorate, said: “Being part of a safe, positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing. We thrive when we have strong connections with other people and supportive communities that remind us we are not alone.”

David Ashford, Minister for the Cabinet Office, added: “Beach Buddies has long played a crucial role in removing debris and pollutants from our coastline… The clean-up sessions don’t have to take long but they can make a huge difference to our environment and to our mood.”

Event Schedule:

  • May 13th, 1:30pm: Manor Park School community clean-up.
  • May 14th, 10:30am: Millennium Wood clean-up (Manx Care staff).
  • May 15th, 9:30am: Open clean-up (railway line/NSC). Meet at Quarterbridge Pub car park.
