A proposed 30-space car park in Crosby has been recommended for refusal by a DEFA planning officer.
This is despite clear support from the local authority, a decision now mired in controversy after it emerged that the key planning officer misread a letter from the Marown Commissioners.
The application, which aimed to alleviate parking pressures in the growing village, had received backing from the Commissioners.
However, during the planning review, the officer incorrectly stated that the Commissioners opposed the scheme — a claim based on a misinterpretation of their formal correspondence.
An email from the Senior Planning Officer at DEFA stated that the letter from the Commissioners “does not explicitly state that they commissioners support the scheme”.
However the letter, seen by Manx.News makes it clear the Commissioners were in support.
Alison Lynch is a member of the Marown Board and told Manx.News that the Commissioners were fully supportive of the scheme as parking in the area was at a premium and during TT course road closures, residents were unable to access their properties.
Mrs Lynch said that the problem is further compounded as the Marown playing Fields close off their parking with a bollard.
