Care About Carers

Crossroads is encouraging people across the Isle of Man to show their support for carers by becoming a Crossroads Champion.

A Crossroads Champions is a new and easy way to stand with those who care for others, and help spread awareness of the support available through the local charity.

Supporters can sign up in under a minute to receive a free digital Champion stamp, which they can display on their email signatures, social media pages, websites or internal communications.

It’s a small gesture that sends a strong message: ‘I care about carers.’

Carers

Jackie Betteridge, CEO of Crossroads, said: “This is for everyone, not just carers themselves, but anyone who values what carers do.

“Becoming a Crossroads Champion is a low-effort, high-impact way to show your support and help us reach more people across the island.”

The 2021 Isle of Man census identified over 4,800 unpaid carers; however, this number is likely an underestimation.

Many individuals providing care for loved ones don’t identify as carers or register. These dedicated people often quietly manage their caregiving responsibilities alongside jobs, household duties, and their own health.

Crossroads offers essential support to these carers through respite care, community services, and emotional support.

Unsung Heroes

Recent findings from the State of Caring Report 2024 revealed that more carers than ever are feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and unsupported, with nearly 85% saying they’re their health has worsened since they started caring.

Jackie continued: “Carers are often the unsung heroes of our community, and this campaign is about making sure they feel seen and supported, while reminding them that help is out there.”

The charity hopes to see workplaces, local businesses, schools, clubs and individuals proudly displaying the Crossroads Champion stamp, helping to normalise conversations about caring and encourage more people to seek support when they need it.
