The Isle of Man women’s football season kicked off on Sunday which saw one of the three scheduled matches go ahead.
Newcomers’ Rushen Utd (having twice-previously entered teams in the league) played their match against Onchan at Croit Lowey, Port Erin on a wind-swept day which the Os won 3-2.
Chloe Kneale gave Onchan an early lead, however on 18 minutes, the southerners equalised via an angled strike from player / manager Donna Harrison.
The visitors restored their lead very much straight from the kick-off, Casey Halsall scoring from within her own half, the former Corinthians AFC player scored again just after the half hour mark to make it 3-1.
In the second half, Rushen had the advantage of the elements but was thwarted by some good defending, goalkeeper Aimee Dentith pulling off some important saves. With the last attack of the match, Hollie Chamberlain pulled a goal back for the southerners.
Before the match, a minute’s applause was observed in memory of Karen Clague – a former Rushen Utd women’s player who passed away last year who was part of the original team back in 2000.
The matches involving Union Mills against Douglas Royal and Malew versus Peel were postponed.
