The chair of Onchan Commissioners appears to have a different recollection of their meeting with the DoI Minister regarding the proposed new 20mph zones.
The discussion, held on Monday included six board members and staff alongside Minister Dr Michelle Haywood and two DoI staff.
On Tuesday, Dr Haywood told Tynwald: “I met with commissioners last night primarily to discuss the 20 mile an hour proposals across their area, which they were massively supportive.”
However, a statement issued by the authority’s chairman, Anthony Allen, would seem to question that account.
Mr Allen said: “The meeting was conducted professionally and questions were asked in particular on the budget for the works, the fact that sign poles has been erected before the consultation end date in July and what involvement the Police would have with this project.
“In principle some members of the Board were supportive of some aspects, namely areas around schools and elderly person complexes; some were less convinced on the merits of the blanket approach across all areas of Onchan.
“It would be accurate to conclude the Board had mixed views and that in itself would be a reflection of the spectrum of views held by residents.
“The Board will continue to engage with the DOI and submit further information via the consultation process in the hope that the outcome will be close to what the public wants.”
