Changes Coming at Manx Care?

Chief Minister Alf Cannan will sit down with Manx Care CEO tomorrow following discussions about future board plans.

Mr Cannan has assumed the role of Health and Social Minister after Lawrie Hooper’s explosive resignation on Tuesday.

In that resignation, and since, Mr Hooper has claimed that the Chief Minister is seeking to privatise the island’s health service, something he denies.

A spokesperson told Manx.News: “There has been no change in Government policy when it comes to the delivery of healthcare and we continue to deliver and support the provision of a National Health Service in which core services are free at the point of use.”

Support

When asked whether Manx Care’s board retains the support of the Council of Ministers, a government spokesperson said: “The Chief Minister has had a productive discussion with the Manx Care Chair regarding future Board plans and will be meeting with the Manx Care CEO tomorrow.

“The Chief Minister and Council of Ministers will continue to support The Department of Health and Social Care, Treasury and Manx Care in working together to make the changes needed to deliver services within the allocated budgets.”
