Chris Thomas Enters Fray in Race for Chief Minister

Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas has entered the fray to be the next Chief Minister.

Thomas had until today remained tight-lipped on his intentions but, after circulating a proposed manifesto among Tynwald members yesterday (Monday), he told Manx.News he was “working towards sending the policy statement I circulated yesterday afternoon to the Secretary of the House of Keys”.

Policy statements by candidates need to be submitted to the Secretary of the House of Keys, at the Clerk of Tynwald’s office, by noon today (October 6).

The confirmation comes just as Rob Callister has announced he has withdrawn from the race. The House of Keys is set to vote for a new Chief Minister on October 13.

In the policy statement circulated among Tynwald Members yesterday, Thomas states: “Voters want a focused Government that delivers efficiently rather than a bigger Government paid for by other people’s money through more taxation.”

He adds that his manifesto outlines “proposals for how we can work together for smaller, smarter and smoother government”.

He says: “We can bring prioritised 2016-2031 economic and legislative programmes, and a delivery plan for costing and funding,
to Tynwald before Christmas.”

This is the final version of the policy statement due to be submitted.
