Ramsey commissioner Juan McGuinness has criticised the decision to close the re-use shed at the Balladoole amenity site.
The Northern Civic Amenity Site Joint Committee has agreed to close the shed, saying it has become “increasingly harder for site staff to monitor the area”.
Announcing the closure, the committee said the shed was “not being used for its intended purpose and continues to cause a bottleneck for the site with people staying longer than the recommended time and visiting multiple times a day”.
However, Mr McGuinness said the decision will “increase the amount of waste being directly disposed of and incinerated”.
He added: “The reuse section is a well used part of the facility, reducing the service offered is once again hindering the residents of the North and I am struggling to see the pressure to undertake this change.
“I hope the committee reconsiders this move as soon as possible.”
