Castletown Town Commissioners has refuted claims made by Filbey’s that the local authority blocked the caterers from operating in the Market Square this summer.
The Commissioners said it had been in correspondence with Filbey’s for some time regarding a request to operate in the square during 2026.
It said that it wrote to Filbey’s on February 17 offering six Saturday dates: April 25, May 30, June 27, July 18, August 22 and September 19.
The authority said Filbey’s replied on March 11 saying: “Unfortunately none of the dates that the Balley Cashtal Market are doing are suitable for us as we already have bookings in.”
Decision
The same day, Filbey’s posted on Facebook that the Commissioners had “declined our proposal” and “have made their decision.”
The Commissioners said: “It was Filbey’s who determined that they would not come to Castletown during 2026 this was not a decision of the Castletown Town Commissioners, who were happy for Filbey’s to operate.”
It added it was “unfortunate that Filbey’s indicate on their Facebook page that the blame lies solely with the Commissioners, which is not factual”.
