Castletown Commissioners says it wants to see a review into whether Westhill House on the former Buchan School site should be registered.
The house was part of the original school building when it was built and is now subject to a demolition order to make room for 85 houses.
Chair of the local authority Tony Brown says the board is supportive of the housing estate development but believes there is ‘inadequate’ information to support Westhill’s registration.
Mr Brown adds that the future of the house must be settled before any decisions are made about the new estate.
