Corinthians beat relegation threatened St Georges on Saturday to gatecrash the title race ahead of next weekend’s clash with Peel.
The Whites overtook Ayre United who surrendered a two goal lead to lose 3-4 at home to Union Mills.
After a first half with few chances ended goalless, Corinthians broke the deadlock when Dan Simpson tapped in a rebound after Ben Wilkinson made a good save but parried it straight into his path.
The second followed soon after as Corinthians were awarded a penalty with Joao Marques stepping up to make it 0-2.
The points were secured when Josh Ridings added a third shortly after before Ed Kangah pulled one back for the home side.
Despite that, Connor Clark added the fourth to seal the game and the win as he made it 1-4 to the Ballafletcher side.
Up in Andreas Ayre Utd took the lead in the 25th minute as Harry Best broke the deadlock, with Chris Duggan shortly adding a second.
However, two quick fire goals from Dominic McHarrie-Brennan ensured it was 2-2 at the break.
Mills then took the lead in the 55th minute as Lewis Hicks made it 2-3 before Jack Murray added a fourth.
Ayre brought it back to 3-4 when Duggan grabbed his second just minutes from full-time, but the Railway Cup winners were unable to find an equaliser.
Those results leave Peel top of the Canada Life Premier League by three points over Corinthians ahead of next week’s game. However, the westerners do have a game in hand over the Braddan side.
Ayre are now six points behind Peel and three behind Corinthians and but will be able to close the gap on at least one of them if they win at Foxdale next week.
Around the Grounds
Elsewhere Laxey were trounced at home by a Daniel Lane inspired Rushen 0-5, while Callum Taggart’s strike ensured St John’s beat rock bottom Marown.
The other result in the Premier League saw Onchan claim a valuable point against Foxdale as they moved four points clear of the bottom two, though St Georges have a game in hand.
Cup Feeling
The GH Corlett Woods Cup got underway this weekend, with Braddan beating Governor’s Athletic 6-0 and Old Boys beat D&D 3-0.
Malew and RYCOB could not be separated after two hours of football, with the home team eventually getting through 6-5 on penalties.
