Crews from Laxey Fire Station responded to a chimney fire of a house in Baldrine.
On Friday (August 29), firefighters found that a blockage in the flue had caused smoke to back fill into the ground floor of the property.
All occupants were out of the property prior to Fire Service arrival.
The Officer in Charge deployed 2 BA wearers to ventilate the property and crews were in attendance for approximately 30 minutes.
Clean Your Chimneys
As the temperature drops and the use of log burners and open fires increases, the fire service would like to issue the following advice:
- Chimney flues should be regularly inspected and swept by an accredited chimney sweep, at least once a year.
- If burning wood, ensure that it is properly seasoned with a low moisture content.
- Ensure you have a carbon monoxide detector in the same room as the fire/stove.
- Ensure you have working smoke alarms fitted in your property.
