Cummal Mooar is a Priority Without a Timeframe

There is no fixed timeline for when a bid for finances to replace Cummal Mooar will go to Tynwald, the Health Minister has confirmed.

In response to a written Tynwald question from Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper, Minister Claire Christian said the project is “firmly on the agenda and the future of Cummal Mooar remains a clear priority”.

Ms Christian said her department has conducted a review of the original plans since development funding was approved.

The initial proposal for a 45-bed residential facility with a day centre is now being reconsidered.

The Minister explained that the DHSC and Manx Care are “exploring a redesigned model” to provide “a blend of extra care and more flexible nursing arrangements”.

She added: “We remain fully committed to delivering a modern, flexible replacement for Cummal Mooar in the centre of the town.”

The government’s aim, the minister said, is to support the vision of enabling people to receive care “as close to home as possible, right in the heart of the community”.
