A Peel cyclist is gearing up for an extraordinary fundraising challenge this summer, taking on a 2,000km solo ride from Italy to the Isle of Man.
David Hogg will be taking on the challenge to raise funds and awareness for local sight loss charity, Sight Matters.
Hogg will set off in July, beginning his journey in Pisa, Italy before travelling more than 1,250 miles through 11 countries.
Carrying all his own equipment, he aims to complete the route in just 15 days.
Riding Home to Peel
“I’m starting in Pisa and I’m riding home to Peel,” David explained. “That’ll be about 2,000 kilometres around 1,250 miles and I’m aiming to do it in 15 days. I’ll be doing the whole thing solo as well, carrying all my gear.”
David is no stranger to long‑distance cycling, having completed several major challenges in the past. But he says this ride is motivated by a desire to take on one more big adventure while supporting a cause close to home.
His route will take him north through mainland Europe to the Hook of Holland, where he’ll cross to the UK before continuing on to the Isle of Man. Throughout the journey, he plans to share regular updates, including videos and daily blogs.
Sight Matters, which supports hundreds of visually impaired people and their families each year, says David’s challenge will help shine a light on the realities of sight loss on the island.
Peter Marshall, Fundraising and Marketing Lead at the charity, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to David for taking on such a demanding challenge in support of Sight Matters. It’s a fantastic way to raise awareness of sight loss on the Isle of Man, and we’ll be cheering him on every mile.”
