The unauthorised drone operator in the area of the Ballahutchin has been located and arrested.
The Drone and equipment has been seized. As this matter is now an active investigation Isle of Man Constabulary will be disabling comments on its social media post.
Drone regulations
Use of unauthorised Drones around the TT Course and associated areas:
Drones pose an increased safety risk during TT. Their use can be a serious distraction to the riders. They also pose a threat to helicopters that are supporting the event (air ambulance and filming). Drones can also pose a risk to spectators, particularly where large groups are gathered.
The Isle of Man Civil Aviation Administration (a part of the Department for Enterprise) is the aviation safety regulator on the Island. Legislation is in place governing normal day-to-day drone use.
However, during the Isle of Man TT and Manx GP, more restrictive legislation is put in place in the form of regulations made under section 11H and 11I of the Airports and Civil Aviation Act 1987.
When is the restriction active?
• During road closure May 29, 2024 until the end of June 11, 2024 and August 20, 2024 until the end of August 29, 2024;
Contravention of the Regulations is an offence punishable on summary conviction by a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale (currently £10,000) or custody not exceeding five years.
There are no fixed penalty fines in place for contravention of the Regulations.
During the TT and Manx GP, regulations prohibit SUA (‘drones’) from flying within the area shown below:
