Drop in Injuries After Prom Works

A significant drop in road traffic collisions on Douglas Promenade has been attributed to the prom redevelopment scheme.

Responding to a question from Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh, minister Tim Crookall provided data showing a major improvement since the promenade’s redesign was completed in June 2022.

“The three-year average of recorded road traffic collisions resulting in casualties fell to 2.67, down from 9.6,” he said, comparing it to the five-year average prior to the scheme.

The figures indicate a reduction of over 70% in the average number of injury-causing collisions.

Courtesy crossings on the promenade, which were assessed as part of the wider scheme’s safety audits, have seen one recorded incident since 2019.
