The island’s annual Earnings Survey is “statistically valid” and meets the requirements to provide reliable estimates across a range of employment measures, according to the Cabinet Office.
Minister David Ashford confirmed the status of the survey in response to a written Tynwald question from Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas.
Mr Thomas asked whether the data was a statistically valid estimate of “average and median earnings of employees by sector, the gender pay gap, the distribution of earnings and the average number of working hours of full-time employees”.
Mr Ashford said: “The Earnings Survey is based on a randomly selected sample of employees and is a compulsory survey under the Statistics Act 1999, ensuring a response rate of close to 100%.”
He added: “For this reason, the Earnings Survey meets the requirements to make statistically valid estimates of and inferences concerning each of the quantities listed in the question.”
