Energy Efficiency Scheme Targeted For July

A new home energy efficiency scheme is expected to come to July Tynwald, the Environment Minister confirmed.

Clare Barber MHK told members the proposed Heatwise Home Scheme has been fully developed and is moving through the remaining approval stages.

She said the work had taken “far longer” than expected because of the scale and complexity of the scheme.

The new programme will include support for low carbon heating, window and door replacements, and additional insulation measures, with tiered financial support depending on household income.

Minister Barber said delays had been frustrating for households, installers and from an emissions perspective, but the department had continued work with a small team.

She confirmed £100,000 from the Climate Change Fund has been secured to extend the current scheme for low‑income households, and that £16 million has been approved in principle for the new scheme, subject to final sign off.

Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper noted the scheme had slipped several times and asked whether July was realistic. Barber said she was confident it was now in the right place to proceed.
