The Fire and Rescue Service had an eventful 24 hours with a horse rescue and a fire caused by fly tipping over the weekend.
Crews from Douglas together with its specialist Animal Rescue Team were dispatched to the Home of Rest to assist a horse called Valiant who had collapsed and was unable to get himself back up on all fours.
On Sunday (October 27) morning, crews worked with staff and the vet on site to get the old boy back up again so he could enjoy the rest of his retirement.
The fire services claim that the uninjured Valiant told them that an extra hour wasn’t enough and he just needed a little help getting out of bed – we all know that feeling!
Eventful Weekend
Peel were then dispatched to a fire in Greeba, which had been the result of fly tipping.
Crews extinguished the fire and reported the concerns to colleagues in the police who are investigating the matter.
The fire service reminds the public that for every minute that a fire appliance is called out to an event such as burning rubbish (which could have been disposed of responsibly) it is not available to help the public in other areas of the Island.
