Fare Offers ‘well taken up’

The Chair of the Steam Packet has said that the company’s ‘kids go free’ offer has been “well understood and “well taken up”.

Last October, the Steam Packet announced a major shake up to its fare structure including free travel for children.

Speaking at the Government Conference, Steam Packet Chair Dan Clague said that the offer cost the company £800,000 to introduce.

He said: “It’s been well understood, well taken up. We got a lot of extra volume as well.

“So the net cost of that was actually £340,000, which we felt was a really sensible way of putting our profit loss account to work in support of growing the business so and then the fare offers all of this has actually reduced our average ticket yield.

“And I mean, you know, in terms of value for money, it was with £25 on average for foot passengers, which is, you know, incredibly good value.

“And you’ll actually see us in the Manx CPI the banks inflation index we feature as part of sea traffic at minus seven and a half percent in the last 12 months. So we’re doing our bit.”

Affordability

The Steam Packet disclosed that the net cost of the 10% off standard fares was £110,000.

Meanwhile, the cost of web discount extended to vans was £57,000, and the harmonization of accompanied and unaccompanied freight rates was £724,000

Finally, the extended offer fares net cost was £169,000.
