‘Final Offer’ Made to Bus Drivers

Chief Minister Alf Cannan has told Keys that the government has made a final offer to end the bus drivers’ dispute.

Drivers have just finished several weekends of strike action, worth balloting due for more walk outs.

Mr Cannan told the House of Keys that the DoI issued an eighth pay offer overnight, following the rejection of a previous proposal by Unite the Union members.

He said that earlier offer represented a “significant average increase in pay per bus driver annually”.

Hopeful

Mr Cannan said he hoped the latest offer would be accepted by drivers, describing it as “very positive”.

He added that “positive verbal recognition was received when this offer was given”.

The Chief Minister stressed he did not want to “inflame what is clearly a delicate negotiation”, but acknowledged that if the offer is rejected, government would have to consider contingency plans.

Mr Cannan said he hoped resolution could be achieved this week.
