Former Chef Awarded £1,000 by Tribunal

A former chef at a Douglas bistro has been awarded £1,084.16 for unlawful deductions and the company’s failure to provide properly itemised payslips.

Francesco Romagnosi, who worked at Refuge Coffee – Bar – Bistro, was awarded the money by an employment tribunal chaired by Peter Taylor.

Mr Taylor ruled that Mr Romagnosi had not been paid 77 hours which he should have been paid as per his contracted hours.

However, while acknowledging the company had failed to provide properly itemised payslips, Mr Taylor noted that Mr Romagnosi had benefitted from a loan from the company and the deductions from his pay included this money.

Mr Taylor said: “This was a considerable benefit to the complainant and in the circumstances it would be inequitable to penalise the respondent for omitting something from a payslip which the complainant had agreed to be deducted, which he was fully aware of the amount of the deduction and when it would be made”
