Four Buses Hit by Trees in Past Week

The past week has thrown several days of storm conditions which has resulted in four buses being hit by trees.

The Department of Infrastructure (DoI) told Manx.News that two of them occurred on Sunday (August 25):

A service 11 bus returning to Douglas from the south of the Island struck a branch while travelling along New Castletown Road around midday on Sunday.

One passenger, who was sitting upstairs and at the front of the vehicle at the time of the impact, was treated for a cut to their head.

The vehicle was seriously damaged, sustaining a broken upper deck windscreen in addition to five side windows.

Bus Strike Number Two

Later on Sunday, a bus travelling on the Peel coast road near Knocksharry suffered a broken upper deck windscreen after hitting low-hanging branches.

The DoI confirmed there were no injuries in this incident.

Landowners are reminded that, under section 51 (1) of the Highways Act 1986, it is the responsibility of the owner of the property to ensure that trees and hedges do not cause any danger to road vehicles.
