A Ramsey commissioner has criticised the state of the crazy golf course in Mooragh Park, admitting criticism from the public is “justified”.
Juan McGuinness said the facility is “looking tired and scruffy, and not what you’d expect in Ramsey’s main public space”.
He added: “It doesn’t reflect particularly well on the park or the town.”
Mr McGuinness revealed he raised concerns as far back as 2017 about the design and quality of the course. He said two consecutive boards have chosen not to prioritise investment.
“In 2024 I approached specialist suppliers, met with them, and brought forward options as part of the budget process, but they weren’t progressed,” he said. “In 2025, a local business came forward with a strong proposal. That was explored, but again not taken forward.”
He warned a quick short-term clean-up is likely, but called for a full Mooragh Park strategy.
“A strategy should set out what gets maintained, improved or replaced, and when, and just as importantly, what doesn’t, and why,” Mr McGuinness said.
“At the moment, that clarity isn’t there in a way people can easily see. If people want to see proper investment in the crazy golf, that needs to be said.”
