The five year term of Sir John Lorimer has been formally extended for another year.
The role of Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man is a Crown appointment, traditionally for a term of five years.
Sri John’s term was scheduled to end on September 30 2026, exactly five years after he was sworn in at Castle Rushen.
However, following consideration of the Lieutenant Governor’s constitutional role in national elections and during the formation of a new government, a proposal was submitted by the government to request the extension of Sir John’s term by up to eleven months so as to deconflict the change of Lieutenant Governor from the general election.
His tenure will now end no later than August 27 2027.
The next House of Keys general election is scheduled to take place on September 24 2026.
Sir John said: ‘I was delighted when the proposed extension to my tenure was approved by His Majesty.
“Not only do I find the role of Lieutenant Governor both fulfilling and rewarding, Lady Lorimer and I love living on the island and we feel very much at home here.”
